We are seeking a skilled and motivated Veterinary Technician to support our veterinary team in providing high-quality medical care to a diverse collection of animals. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the health and well-being of our animals through hands-on medical support, collaboration with animal care teams. Roles & Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians during exams, diagnostic procedures, medical treatments, surgical procedures, post-mortem exams, and emergencies
- Prepare and perform laboratory diagnostics including bloodwork, cytology, urinalysis, fecal analysis, microbiology, and other routine tests
- Monitor anesthesia and assist with surgery and post-operative care
- Prepare, calculate, and dispense medications and supplements
- Transport and safely restrain animals under 40 lbs for procedures
- Observe and report on animal health and behavior, including during recovery and neonatal periods
- Maintain veterinary equipment, pharmacy, and treatment rooms, including IDEXX machine upkeep
- Assist with medical data entry, scanning, and filing
- Coordinate and schedule routine health checks and follow-up appointments
- Participate in weekly animal rounds and help implement preventative health programs
- Conduct supply inventory, order and restock pharmaceuticals, and maintain treatment kits
- Train veterinary interns and externs in procedures and protocols
- Support special veterinary projects and animal care initiatives as needed

Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Veterinary Technology, Biology, or related field preferred
- 1–2 years of experience as a Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant required
- Veterinary Technician Certification (or ability to obtain) strongly preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams
- Excellent attention to detail, recordkeeping, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently and prioritize under pressure
- Commitment to animal welfare and professional veterinary standards
- Positive, team-oriented attitude with flexibility and enthusiasm for learning
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience working with marine and aquatic animals (cetaceans, pinnipeds, turtles, fish, birds, etc.)
- Experience using ZIMS (Zoological Information Management System)
- Anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, or emergency care in a zoological or aquatic animal care setting
- Experience in wildlife, wildlife rehabilitation, or rescue/return programs
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on feet for extended periods
- Comfortable working in aquatic/saltwater environments and around various animal species
- Capable of bending, kneeling, reaching, and performing physically demanding tasks
- Ability to operate vehicles and equipment safely
- Able to work indoors and outdoors in variable weather conditions
Working Conditions:
- 40 hours per week; must be available to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings for animal emergencies or procedures
- May include overtime during urgent animal care situations
- Work in laboratory and outdoor settings with exposure to saltwater, cleaning agents, and biological materials
