Burlington Emergency and Veterinary Specialists is Vermont’s only 24/7 specialty and emergency hospital. We offer 2-4 week externships to fourth year veterinary students. Externships are offered year round (with the exception of June). Externs work for an average of 40 hours/week and have the opportunity to work alongside specialists in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Oncology, Physical Therapy as well as with our experienced team of ER doctors. Our high case load means that our externs are likely to see a variety of medical and surgical conditions.
Externship students are expected to participate in both inpatient and outpatient care including patient rounds, discussion of appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic modalities and selected hands on procedures.
Photos of our new, state of the art facility including on-site CT and MRI are on our website. We are proud to be a part of the Fear Free program, as well.
Applications must include a letter of good standing from your academic institution, proof of rabies and tetanus vaccines, and proof of health insurance. Unfortunately, at this time we are not able to offer housing, liability coverage, or compensation, however we are able to assist students in finding temporary accommodations.
Externs are scheduled for 40hr/week and will rotate through specialty and ER services. Externships of more than four weeks will be considered on a case by case basis.
Additional Salary Information: This is an unpaid position
