Panhandle Animal Shelter has been caring for animals for over 30 years. We are a non-profit, no kill animal shelter with a veterinary team that works to improve the health and well-being of the animals in our care and our community. We are looking for a Shelter Veterinarian who enjoys practicing quality medicine while in a fast paced environment.
Our medical department is equipped with a variety of medical equipment including a full surgical and recovery suite, surgical tools, Abaxis blood machines, outside laboratory services, microscope, ultrasonic dental scaler and polisher and future plans of adding digital x-ray.
Our shelter is located in beautiful Sandpoint, Idaho which has been recognized by multiple travel publications as one of the most beautiful small towns in America. Not only does our community provide access to world class skiing and one of the largest natural lakes west of the Mississippi, it is comprised of great people who seek to live a quality, simple lifestyle.

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD)
Eligible to be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Idaho
Current DEA license for controlled substances
Strong surgical and diagnostic skills
Interest in and understanding of shelter medicine and Fear Free Pet certification

About Panhandle Animal Shelter
Panhandle Animal Shelter has been caring for animals for over 30 years. We are a non-profit, no kill animal shelter with a team that works to improve the health and well-being of the animals in our care and our community.
We were founded in 1988 in an effort to assist our local community by housing its lost and homeless animals. Our shelter is situated on 5.48 acres; it is 28,000 square feet and consists of 85 kennels, 5 colony cat rooms, 4 canine socialization rooms, a canine training room and 10,000 square feet of exercise yards. We have a fully operational medical and surgical ward, a community event room and administrative offices. In addition to this we have a 5,000 square foot thrift Store and a 3,500 square foot Sorting Facility.
In 2018, approximately 2,100 were admitted into our shelter. Of those animals, 95% were either adopted out, transferred to another animal welfare group or returned to their loving homes.
