Alvarado Veterinary Clinic (AVC) is hiring a full-time mixed animal associate. We are a multi-doctor clinic committed to practicing excellence in medicine and surgery on all species. The practice is located 30 miles south of Fort Worth, Texas. Opportunity is available for a Husband-Wife team. Established in 1981, AVC has grown from a one doctor clinic to a full service hospital offering an internship program, ambulatory services, emergency care, and advanced medicine and surgery. Our case load varies from primary level wellness care to tertiary level referral cases. We are looking for excellent doctors who want to join a family oriented team. Excellent pay, great benefits, close proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and an environment built on support and mentorship make this an exciting opportunity for someone wanting to practice mixed animal medicine at a high level.

Our website, (not recently updated), is AlvaradoVeterinaryClinic.com
The large animal hospital provides three full box veterinary trucks, a new hydraulic squeeze chute, 16 stall equine hospital with a separate breeding lab, 3 meter scope, and a surgery room with a hydraulic table. Our equine practice is mostly Western Pleasure, ranching, rodeo, and breeding. The food animal practice is primarily beef cattle and small ruminants.
The small animal case load is very exciting, with everything from routine wellness exams to referral level medicine and surgery. Our doctors are free to practice in an independent, supportive environment that respects the decision making ability and surgical skills of the doctor. This allows you to practice medicine the way many doctors envisioned when starting veterinary school. Our excellent team of talented veterinarians and staff allow doctors to tackle the cases that many clinics cannot handle, with lots of support and mentoring. The clinical staff is incredible, with many career oriented technicians who have been with the hospital for ten plus years. AVC has all the bells and whistles needed to practice, including digital radiography (DR and CR), endoscopy, and 4 sonograms, including a brand new Samsung HS40 tower system. Advanced surgeries are performed routinely, including TPLO, TTA, bone plating, external fixation, and soft tissue surgeries such as resections and anastamosis,GDV, exploraties and splenectomies. AVC maintains an in-house blood bank and has an active emergency program.
2 homes are on the property for housing interns and externs. Currently the hospital has 5 interns and averages approximately 50 externs per year, including many international students. The internship is a rotating one year program selected through the VIRMP matching system. The five 2 week rotations are small animal internal medicine, equine medicine/ surgery, SA/LA anesthesia & SA surgery, food animal medicine/ surgery, and SA/LA community practice.
The practice is fast paced, and doctors who enjoy the challenge of a successful practice thrive here. The approximate case load is 70% small animal and 30% large animal. We currently have 10 full time veterinarians and 5 intern veterinarians. While that could come across as intimidating, it serves as a very positive environment for support, collaboration, and fun! If this sounds like your dream job, but your worried you do not know how to use an endoscope or something similar, contact us. We expect few doctors will be completely up to speed in all species and all of the various diagnostic and therapeutic avenues that are now available. AVC supports continuing education and growth with weekly clinic wide in-service every Thursday afternoon from 12-13:30, daily 7:30 rounds for the interns, externs and any clinicians who want to attend, and weekly Friday morning doctor only "grand rounds" with intern presentations, breakfast and bonding.
Our Veterinarians are on call an average of one night a week and cover the large and small animal hospitals with an intern for assistance.
The hospital is large, with approximately 50 employees. However, the atmosphere is very family oriented. We work hard and the case load can be challenging, but the rewards are great. The location is excellent, allowing access to all of the advantages of a major metropolis while still enjoying small town Texas life.
We are looking for a Veterinarian who enjoys practicing at a high level on all animals, focuses on value to the client, and wants to be a part of a community. Veterinarians need to be able to cover both the large animal and small animal cases that present on after hours. However, we welcome veterinarians who are not totally comfortable in a specific species to apply. We often have a doctor who may have interned in a equine only hospital, for example, that is still able to excel in our mixed animal environment. If a doctor has a good work ethic and is willing to learn, we are excited to partner with them. Many doctors find their comfort zone with a specific species and are able to excel there. AVC is looking for veterinarians interested in staying with us for many years, and we are committed to financially and professionally rewarding your decision.
Please call or apply via email and thank you! I do not check emails every day so please continue to contact us until you receive a reply. All applicants must have a current licence in the United States and be able to be licensed in Texas.
DVM/VMD Licensed to practice Veterinary medicine in the United States and able to be licensed in the State of Texas.
Additional Salary Information: 50% of earnings on after hours
Internal Number: 10/02/19
