Job Description:
We are seeking a full-time Exotic Animal Veterinarian to join our clinical team. This position is ideal for a DVM/VMD with a passion for exotic species, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to client education and collaborative medicine.
Avian & Exotic Philly Vet (AEPV) is a well-established, privately owned small practice located in Philadelphia, PA. We are exclusively dedicated to avian and exotic animals and pride ourselves on providing progressive, high-quality care in a collaborative and supportive environment. We offer gold-standard diagnostics (Ultrasound/Boarded Radiologist, CT, Endoscopy) in a private practice setting. Our team consists of 3 clinicians (2 boarded avian specialists), an intern, 10 specialty-trained exotic nurses, and assistants in a newly renovated 3,200-sq-ft space. Training and mentorship are available from our senior clinicians and welcomed in a supportive, collegial environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical, surgical, and diagnostic care for exotic pets
- Work 4–5 shifts per week with every other weekend off
- Participate in rounds, follow up on patient care, and communicate with clients
- Collaborate with an experienced team of veterinarians and support staff
- No formal on-call responsibilities

Requirements
Job Requirements:
Education & Licensing
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an accredited institution
- Valid and active Pennsylvania veterinary license (or eligibility to obtain)
- No history of disciplinary action or professional misconduct
- DEA registration if handling controlled substances
Clinical Skills & Experience
- Experience or strong interest in avian and exotic animal medicine
- Mentorship and training available in collaborative supportive environment
- Proficiency in clinical exams, diagnostics, and treatment planning for birds, reptiles, small mammals, and other exotics
- Surgical competency within your comfort level for exotic species; training and support available
- Ability to educate clients on husbandry, nutrition, and preventive care
Schedule & Availability
- Commitment to working 4 to 5 shifts per week
- Every other weekend off
- No formal on-call requirements, but must be reasonably available for case-related follow-ups
Professional Conduct & Communication
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
- Willingness to participate in rounds, case discussions, and training
- Maintain thorough and accurate medical records
Performance Expectations
- Foster a healthy relationship with clients and grow a strong client base
- Participate and host rounds on select topics
- Maintain CE and knowledge in exotic medicine to provide gold standard care
- Maintain professional memberships (e.g., VIN, Vetfolio) and licensure
